ALDI’s olive oil wins Product of the Year

Download PDF ALDI’s Olive Tree Australian Extra Virgin Olive Oil has been awarded Product of the Year in the Cooking Ingredient category in the 2011 Product of the Year Survey of Innovation. Stefan Kopp, ALDI Managing Director - Buying, said that the supermarket is very proud of its olive oil products, and is honoured and delighted to have won the Award. “We are passionate about quality and work tirelessly with our suppliers to ensure our products are the best they can be. This award is a reflection of this.” ALDI’s Olive Tree Australian Extra Virgin Olive Oil 500ml retails for $5.49 and is available in three varieties: robust, fruity and delicate. “We have carefully selected a unique blend of the freshest ingredients to ensure the ideal flavour profile for each variant,” said Kopp. “Each variant has been blended to suit different taste profiles, so consumers can choose the style they prefer, or that most suits the intended purpose. For example, robust or fruity oil might be used when dipping crusty breads or to dress salads or vegetables, while delicate oil can be used for cooking, but it is really up to the individual.” ALDI is the only supermarket to have signed the Australian Olive Oil Association’s industry Code of Practice. “In addition to being of exceptional quality, ALDI has committed to reducing the carbon footprint of its everyday range of olive oil products within the next two years,” said Kopp. “Last year our everyday range of olive oils became the first olive oils in the world to be certified by the Carbon Trust and the first product in Australia to carry Planet Ark’s Carbon Reduction Label.”

Some of Australia’s favourite family foods, including Cadbury chocolate blocks, Bertolli’s Italian-made Premium Pasta Sauces and Kellogg’s Sultana Bran cereal have come out on top at this year’s Australian Product of the Year 2011 program.

Download PDF Some of Australia’s favourite family foods, including Cadbury chocolate blocks, Bertolli’s Italian-made Premium Pasta Sauces and Kellogg’s Sultana Bran cereal have come out on top at this year’s Australian Product of the Year 2011 program. The winners of the program, the only consumer research exercise where consumers vote on products which most appeal to them, were announced yesterday at an awards ceremony held at the Quay in Sydney. More than 5,000 Australians were surveyed to find the most innovative new products to hit the supermarket shelves in recent times, stretching across 21 categories, including Packaged Goods, Health, Beauty, Cleaning and Pet Care. In the food space, the new Cadbury block packaging was a winner in the highly competitive chocolate confectionary category and Bertolli’s Italian-made Premium Pasta Sauces triumphed in the stocks, recipes bases and sauces section. Organic Bubs baby food pouches emerged victorious in the packaged foods section and Vita-Weat Rice Crackers, Sultana Bran Buds, Wonder White Hi Fibre Plus and Aldi’s Australian Extra Virgin Olive Oil were judged champions in their categories. To qualify for entry, products must have launched between January 2009 and September 2010 and be a completely new type of product or a useful innovation to an older product or brand, such as a new ingredient, redesigned shape or size, new formula, or new packaging. For 12 months, manufacturers of the winning products can use the Product of the Year logo on their packaging, promotions and advertising. The chairman of the jury which shortlisted entries, Coles Supermarkets marketing director Simon McDowell said emerging from the pack to win a Product of the Year category was a great achievement. “Some of the larger supermarkets carry up to twenty-five thousand product lines, so standing out amongst such competition is quite a feat,” he said. McDowell said several winners had revolutionised packaging or performance in their particular space. “The connection with the consumer was immediate in a number of instances because the product was so fresh and innovative, creating meaningful points of difference,” he said. “The winners have set a benchmark for engagement. Now it’s up to their competitors to re-invent and compete. And that is good news for the end consumer.” Product of the Year was founded in 1987 in France by former L'OREAL executive Christian LeBret and currently exists in 28 countries, making its most recent debut in Australia, the USA, Canada, India, SouthAfrica and Japan. Product of the Year 2011 is the second time the program will have run in Australia. Winners of each category in the 2011 Product of the Year program: 1.
